Iskolánkban ez év novemberében az „Against the final solution” c. Erasmus+ pályázat keretén belül görög és román diákok vendégeskedtek.
A 2019-ben induló pályázat lebonyolítását a COVID vírus megnehezítette, a programok megvalósítását késleltette. A partneriskolák közül a görögországi Patrasból és a romániai Iasiból érkezett hozzánk 12 diák és négy pedagógus. Az olasz partneriskola online kapcsolódott be, mivel a vírus újabb hulláma miatt nem jöhettek a saját országaik rendelkezései miatt.
A hét folyamán igyekeztünk minden kötelező programot megvalósítani és ezen felül rendezvényekkel és kirándulásokkal emlékezetessé tenni a vendégek itt tartózkodását. Beszélgetést folytattunk az iskolai erőszak témájában. A 2. világháború eseményeiből előadást hallgathattak a holocaustról és az antiszemitizmusról, megtekintették a témához kapcsolódó 1945 című magyar filmet és a témában online kvíz készült.
A hétfői és keddi napokon meglátogattuk a gyulai és a békéscsabai zsidó temetőt és a zsinagógát, valamint a két város idegenforgalmi nevezetességeit. Kedden este a görög és a román delegáció vezetői megkóstolhatták a híres sarkadi pálinkát Tóth Jánosnak és családjának köszönhetően.
A szerdai napon sűrű program várt ránk, mert Budapesten, a Dohány utcában meglátogattuk Európa legnagyobb és egyik legszebb zsinagógáját, ahol az idegenvezető tolmácsolásában a második világháború szörnyűségeiről is hallhattunk. Az ebéd után rövid pesti városnézés következett. A Duna parton az 1944-45-ben meggyilkoltakat jelképező „Cipők” emlékművénél is megálltunk és fejet hajtottunk a múlt hősei emlékére. Hazaindulás előtt sétát tettünk a budai várban is.
Csütörtökön a hangsúly a magyar népzenén, néptáncon és a népművészeten volt. Kézműves foglalkozás keretében a külföldi vendégek megismerkedhettek az egyes tájegységek hímzésével, viseletével. A Harruckern Táncegyüttes és utánpótlás csoportjai a Szélmalom és a Pendelyke táncegyüttes táncosai különböző magyar régiók táncait mutatták be, majd rövid táncházat tartottak, ahol a vendégdiákokat, tanárokat és iskolánk diákjait is bevonták.
Késő délután az iskolában már hagyományosnak számító, az amerikai hagyományoknak megfelelően, lektorunk – Gyemant Emily Bartch - tiszteletére haláaadás vacsorát és zenés estet szerveztünk közösen vendégeinkkel.
Pénteken, a zárónapon az elmúlt hét eseményeit összegeztük és a következő hónapok eseményeit beszéltük át. A részvevők megkapták a hivatalos tanúsítványokat egy nagyon szép ajándékcsomag kíséretében.
Az egész rendezvény alatt az angol nyelv volt a projekt társalgási nyelve. Ez nagyban segítette a tanulók nyelvtanulását, gyakorlását. Természetesen a vendégek megtanultak néhány magyar szót, és a mi diákjaink is gazdagabbak lettek néhány görög és román szóval.
A projekt következő állomása reméljük, jövő áprilisban lesz Olaszországban, Modena városában, majd azt követően, májusban Patrasba, Görögországban találkozunk újra a partneriskolákkal.
Ezúton szeretnénk megköszönni Sarkad Város Önkormányzatának, Dr. Mokán István polgármester úrnak, hogy támogatásával elősegítette rendezvényünk sikeres megszervezését.
Intézményünk a továbbiakban is pályázik ehhez hasonló programok megszervezésére diákjaink számára, valamint új elemként a pedagógusainknak is szeretnénk lehetőséget biztosítani az Erasmus programba való bekapcsolódásra.

Foreign guests at the Ady Endre – Bay Zoltán Grammar School and College in Sarkad
In November of this year, Greek and Romanian students visited our school as part of the „Against the final solution” Erasmus + competition.
The COVID virus made it difficult to run the application, which started in 2019, and delayed the implementation of the programs. Among the partner schools, 12 students and 4 teachers came to us from Patras, Greece, and Iasi, Romania. Unfortunately, the Italian and German partner schools could only participate online, as they could not come due to the new wave of the virus due to the provisions of their own countries.
During the week, we tried to implement all the obligatory programs and, in addition, make the stay of our guests memorable with events and excursions. We had a conversation about school violence, an online quiz was made. From the events of World War II, they could listen to a lecture on the Holocaust and anti-Semitism, and watch the Hungarian film 1945 related to the topic.
On Mondays and Tuesdays we visited the Jewish cemetery and synagogue in Gyula and Békéscsaba, as well as the tourist attractions of the two cities.
On Tuesday evening, the leaders of the Greek and Romanian delegations were able to taste the famous Sarkad brandy thanks to János Tóth and his family.
On Wednesday, a busy program awaited us, because in Budapest, on Dohány Street, we visited the largest and one of the most beautiful synagogues in Europe, where we could hear about the horrors of the Second World War. After lunch, a short sightseeing tour of Pest followed. We also stopped at the „Shoes” statue, which symbolizes those killed in 1944-45, on the banks of the Danube and bowed our heads in memory of the heroes of the past. Before leaving home, we also took a walk in the Buda Castle.
On Thursday, the focus was on Hungarian folk music, folk dance and folk art. As part of a handicraft session, foreign guests could get acquainted with the embroidery and wear of each region. The groups of the Harruckern Dance Ensemble and the youth dancers of the Windmill and the Pendelyke dance ensemble performed the dances of different Hungarian regions, and then held a short dance hall, where the guest students, teachers and students of our school were also involved in the dance.
Late in the afternoon, we organized a Thanksgiving dinner and a musical evening with our guests in honor of our reviewer, Diamond Emily Bartch, who is already traditional at school.
On Friday, the closing day, we summarized the events of the past week and discussed the events of the following months. Participants received official certifications accompanied by a very nice gift package.
Throughout the event, English was the conversational language of the project. This greatly helped the students to learn and practice the language. Of course, the guests learned some Hungarian words, and our students also got richer with some Greek and Romanian words.
The next stage of the project is hopefully next April in Modena, Italy, and then we will meet with the partner schools again in Patras, Greece in May.

Our institution will continue to apply for the organization of similar programs for our students, and as a new element we would like to provide an opportunity for our teachers to join the Erasmus program.
